Nice to meet you
We all long to feel seen, understood, and secure - yet life and relationships can sometimes pull us away from that sense of closeness. I became a therapist because I have an insatiable curiosity about human nature and a inner drive to understand relationships. I believe in the power of understanding and emotional awareness to help people find their way back to connection - with themselves, and with those they love. I feel honoured and privileged to do this work.
About My Work
I’m Rachel Marshall, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Melbourne. My work is grounded in attachment theory and emotion-focused therapy, both of which recognise that we are wired for connection. I work with couples and individuals who want to deepen understanding, improve communication, and create more secure, fulfilling relationships.
Therapy with me is collaborative and attuned. Together, we slow down and make sense of the patterns that shape your experiences - the ways you’ve learned to protect yourself, connect, or withdraw. From that awareness, we begin to create space for change, healing, and a stronger sense of self and relationship.
My Background
I hold a bachelor of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two evidence-based approaches that inform my work with couples and individuals. I have a deep appreciation of Jungian depth psychology, and have completed courses in the area. I am a trauma informed therapist and incorporate somatic and experiential practices in my work.
I continue to engage in professional development and supervision, believing that growth and reflection are essential - both in therapy and in life.
I am a certified practicing member of Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and I am committed to providing ethical, inclusive and safe therapy practice.
A Little About Me
Outside of my practice, I value time with family, being outdoors, and the quiet moments that allow for reflection and grounding - the same qualities I aim to bring into my work with clients.
Finding the right therapist is an important step. If you’d like to know more about how I work or to see whether therapy with me feels like a good fit, I’d love to hear from you.
When you’re ready
Acknowledgement of Country
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work, the Wurundjeri, Bunurong and Boon Wurrung people, and pay my respects to their Elders, past, present. I also acknowledge the harm caused by my ancestors who arrived uninvited from England and Scotland, contributing to the colonisation and dispossession of the sacred lands of the Aboriginal peoples.
As a person living on this land, and as a therapist, I am committed to decolonising myself and supporting healing. I honour the ongoing strength of Indigenous peoples and pledge to continue learning and acting towards a future that respects their sovereignty and wellbeing.
